Endpoint
Muscle strength (pooled across mixed instruments)
CAT:outcome/muscle-strength-pooledreported in standardised mean difference
Method
Standardised mean difference or Hedges g for muscular strength, pooled across whatever strength tests the constituent trials happened to use, with no single test held constant across the pooled estimate.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
The wording this node was minted from is PMID 35777246's — "muscle strength regardless of the measures used". It sat in `measurement`, which is scored, and a citation drags its paper's vocabulary in with it. Recorded here instead. NOTE THE CIRCULARITY IT CREATED, found 2026-08-27 when both extraction passes remarked on it independently: the node was minted from this paper, the paper was then read against the node, and the node's own definition quoted it back. That is not a fault in either, but a curator adjudicating a claim from 35777246 should know the node was shaped by it. CAT:outcome/1rm-strength, CAT:outcome/isometric-peak-force and handgrip strength are the near-misses, and matching any of them here asserts an instrument the source explicitly declines to name. The composite averages over tests whose responsiveness differs by an order of magnitude: PMID 40944139 found bench press moved while handgrip did not, so the pooled value is a property of the mixture, not of strength. It also has no physical unit and cannot be converted to kilograms. Do not map this onto a named node in either direction, and do not compare two edges here unless the two reviews pooled the same test mixture.
