Nothing here is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing here is a recommendation that you take, avoid, or change anything. A graded finding is a statement about what one or more studies measured in their participants. It is not a prediction about you.

A grade describes the strength of the evidence, not the size of the benefit and not its relevance to your situation. A well-evidenced effect can be irrelevant to you, and a direction we record as an increase can be the wrong direction for a given person. Talk to a clinician who knows your history before acting on anything you read here.

Accuracy, and its limits

Every claim carries its source and a grade computed from that source’s study design. We work to keep that machinery honest — that is the point of the project — but the underlying literature contains errors, contradictions, and papers that are later retracted, and our reading of it can be wrong too. The site is provided as it is, without warranty.

Where a connection is inferred rather than reported, it is labelled as a hypothesis and carries no grade. Those are not findings and must not be read as findings. How to read the evidence explains the distinction.

Using what is here

Read it, quote it, link to it, and cite it. Our own text and the structure of the graph may be used with attribution to Catalyst.

Much of the underlying data comes from public databases under their own licences, several of them CC BY or CC BY-SA, and anatomical geometry is CC BY-SA 4.0 with its upstream chain preserved. Those licences travel with the content: if you reuse it, you take on their terms too. The attribution page names each source, its licence, and the release loaded. Cited papers belong to their publishers and are quoted at citation length only.

For anything at volume, use the bulk export or the API rather than scraping. Please do not use this site in a way that degrades it for other readers.

Accounts

Nothing on the public site requires an account. If you hold one, keep access to your email secure — sign-in is a link sent to that address. We may suspend an account being used to attack or abuse the service. What an account stores, and how to have it deleted, is on the privacy page.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of this site or from decisions taken on the basis of anything published here. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

General

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still stands. Our not enforcing something is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the project changes hands, and your rights travel with them.

Changes

These terms will change as the project does, most notably before the shop sells anything. The date at the top moves when they do.
