Regulation of CDH1 Gene Transcription
Numerous transcription factors have been identified as direct positive regulators of CDH1 gene (also known as E-cadherin, epithelial cadherin, Cadherin-1, CADH1, or uvomorulin) transcription, including ARID1A, FOXA2, FOXJ2 (Martin de Lara et al. 2008; Zhang et al. 2018), KLF4, KLF9, RB1, SP1, and TFAP2A.

Downregulation of the CDH1 gene expression is one of the hallmarks of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, seen normally during development and wound healing, but also pathologically, during cancer progression (reviewed in Serrano-Gomez et al. 2016). Expression of many negative regulators of the CDH1 gene is controlled by TGF-beta signaling, prostaglandin E(2) signaling, WNT signaling, and NFκB signaling. Well-established direct repressors of the CDH1 gene include SNAI1 (SNAIL) (Cano et al. 2000; Batlle et al. 2000; Peinado et la. 2004; Herranz et al. 2008; Hou et al. 2010; Dong et al. 2013; Lu et al. 2014; Villarejo et al. 2014; Maturi et al. 2018), SNAI2 (SLUG), TWIST1, TWIST2, WT1, ZBTB33, ZEB1, ZEB2, and ZNF217.
Several splicing isoforms of CDH1 mRNA/protein exist and inclusion of some exons of CDH1 was shown to be regulated by the SWI/SNF complex.
