Method
Elapsed time from the start of observation until death in a model organism, read from a published survival curve and pooled as a log hazard ratio, or as the percentage change in median or maximum lifespan. Species and life stage at first exposure are recorded on the edge and are not optional: a yeast replicative count, a nematode's days of adulthood and a mouse's months are the same construct on incomparable clocks, and a pooled estimate across them describes the pooling as much as the intervention. Named in this literature as lifespan extension, life extension, longevity, or a life-extending effect.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
Minted 2026-08-25 under ADR-0046 for PMID 22718956, a meta-analysis pooling survival across yeast, C. elegans, Drosophila, Mexican fruitfly, turquoise killifish and mice, which both extraction passes declined because no node could express it. ADR-0014's two-paper floor is cleared and was checked rather than assumed: PMID 39478327 pools cysteine's effect on lifespan across three model organisms by the same method, and 32729662, 34637108, 37939658 and 42498891 measure it in single organisms. A title carrying the word is not automatically this endpoint — PMID 26901223, "Docosahexaenoic Acid and Cognition throughout the Lifespan", uses it to mean a period of human life and measures cognition. NOT a synonym for all-cause mortality, and that node was the near-miss this one exists to avoid widening. All-cause mortality is a human clinical endpoint counting deaths inside a follow-up horizon each trial fixes — a proportion over a stated window, whose horizon the edge must carry because ICU-period and longest-follow-up denominators are not comparable. This is time-to-death over an organism's whole natural span, with no clinical horizon to state, and it is almost always non-human. Widening all-cause mortality to swallow it would have re-labelled every existing edge on that node as covering animal longevity, which none of them do.
