Endpoint
Serum adiponectin
CAT:outcome/serum-adiponectinreported in micrograms/mL
Method
Circulating adiponectin concentration in serum or plasma by immunoassay (ELISA). Whether the assay measures total adiponectin or the high-molecular-weight oligomer is recorded on the edge, along with species and fasting state.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
The inversion partner of serum leptin: both are adipose-derived, both measured by immunoassay in the same serum from the same pooled studies, both reported under a single adipokine heading - and their BENEFIT DIRECTIONS ARE OPPOSITE, this rising and leptin falling. Note the unit gap as well: adiponectin circulates at micrograms/mL and leptin at ng/mL, a thousand-fold difference, so a unit-blind merge produces nonsense magnitudes on top of a cancelled sign. Total and high-molecular-weight assays are not interchangeable; the latter tracks insulin sensitivity more closely.
