Regulation of MITF-M-dependent genes involved in apoptosis

MITF contributes to cellular survival through regulation of anti-apoptotic factors such as BCL2 and BIRC7 (McGill et al, 2002; Dynek et al, 2008; Strub et al, 2011; reviewed in Cheli et al, 2010). Consistent with this, MITF is required for survival of melanoblasts during embryogenesis. MITF may also contribute to survival through regulation of DICER, which in turn regulates expression of a number of genes by virtue of its processing of microRNAs.
