Endpoint
Postprandial blood glucose area under the curve
CAT:outcome/postprandial-glucose-aucreported in mmol/L x min
Method
Incremental area under the blood glucose concentration-time curve over 60 to 120 minutes following a fixed mixed-nutrient drink or oral glucose load, from serial venous or capillary sampling. Sampling window and load composition recorded on the edge.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
Integrates the entire excursion. Will be confused with the single highest postprandial glucose value, which is far noisier and can be null while this moves -- in PMID 27655440 leucine 10 g shifted the integral significantly but only tended to shift the maximum, so merging them would import a null into this node's evidence base. Also distinct from fasting blood glucose and from HbA1c, which describe basal and long-run glycaemia; a compound can flatten a meal excursion without touching either.
