Proteins/UNIPROT:Q3KQZ1
Mediates phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) efflux across the inner membrane of mitochondria as part of glyceroneogenesis pathway in the liver and adipose tissue. Transports PEP generated via the mitochondrial PC- and PCK2-dependent pyruvate-to-PEP bypass, thereby driving PEP flux required for cytosolic glycerol 3-phosphate and triglyceride synthesis. Controls INS-induced glycerolipid synthesis in adipocytes (By similarity). Most likely operates as an antiporter that exchanges monocarboxylates such as PEP and possibly dicarboxylates and sulfur oxoanions across the inner membrane of mitochondria. PEP transport is gated by mitochondrial membrane potential, although the precise transport mechanism has yet to be fully elucidated (By similarity)..
