Posterior subcapsular cataract incidence

Method

Incident posterior subcapsular age-related lens opacity by standardised slit-lamp lens grading or documented clinical diagnosis, pooled as a relative risk.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

Will be confused with the other two lens-opacity subtypes graded at the same visit, and is the one most likely to be silently absorbed into an undifferentiated cataract estimate because it is the rarest of the three and therefore carries the widest confidence interval. Rarity is not absence of effect: an edge built from a pooled all-cataract figure must not be attributed here. This subtype is also the one most strongly associated with corticosteroid exposure, a confounder specific to it.
