Method
Diastolic blood pressure taken at a clinic visit with the participant seated after a stated rest period, by auscultatory or validated automated cuff sphygmomanometer, averaged across the readings of that visit.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
Systolic blood pressure (office/clinic) is the same cuff inflation and the same visit, and the two routinely dissociate in both directions: PMID 41388744 found a significant systolic reduction (-2.69 mmHg) with a frankly null diastolic effect, PMID 41515249 the same asymmetry, and PMID 41305552 the reverse, with diastolic the only significant component. Dietary nitrate in particular lowers systolic and not diastolic, so averaging them into 'blood pressure' halves a real signal and can null it. Also distinct from diastolic blood pressure (setting unspecified), whose acquisition protocol is unrecoverable, and from mean arterial pressure, which is weighted towards this component but is not it.
