Method

Incident oesophageal cancer in observational cohorts and case-control studies comparing highest with lowest consumption of a defined exposure, pooled as a risk ratio.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

Will be confused with gastric cancer incidence, routinely absorbed with it into an upper digestive tract composite. The aetiologies differ -- thermal injury and alcohol here, Helicobacter pylori there -- and the pooled risk ratios in these reviews do not agree. Beverage-temperature confounding is specific to this site and inverts the apparent direction in some cohorts, so it must be recorded on the edge and reflected in the grade.
