Endpoint
Cortical cataract incidence
CAT:outcome/cortical-cataract-incidencereported in relative risk
Method
Incident cortical age-related lens opacity by standardised slit-lamp lens grading or documented clinical diagnosis, pooled as a relative risk.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
Will be confused with nuclear and posterior subcapsular opacities from the same grading protocol. Cortical opacity is the subtype most strongly tied to ultraviolet exposure rather than to the oxidative and nutritional pathways that drive the nuclear subtype, so a nutrient effect demonstrated for the nuclear region is not evidence for this one. In the source papers this subtype did not reach significance where the nuclear subtype did.
