Proteins/UNIPROT:Q96CX6
Substrate-recognition component of a cullin-5-RING E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex (ECS complex, also named CRL5 complex), which mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins, such as CDO1. The ECS(LRRC58) complex acts as a regulator of cysteine catabolism by mediating ubiquitination and degradation of CDO1, the rate-limiting enzyme of the cysteine catabolic process to taurine. L-cysteine abundance regulates ECS(LRRC58)-mediated ubiquitination of CDO1: the complex promotes ubiquitination and degradation of CDO1 in presence of high level of cysteine, but not when cysteine abundance is low..
