Pulse wave velocity (segment unspecified)

Method

Arterial pulse wave velocity computed as the distance between two arterial recording sites divided by the pulse transit time between them, where the source report does not state which arterial segment was interrogated or which device was used.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

A deliberate catch-all for reports that give a velocity without saying where it was measured. Aortic, brachial-ankle and femoral-ankle velocities differ by several m/s and respond differently to the same intervention, so an unlabelled value must not be mapped onto the carotid-femoral node -- that would silently pool incomparable segments under one effect size. SIGN INVERSION HAZARD against flow-mediated dilation, measured in the same trials and reported in the same sentence as vascular function: this improves by FALLING and FMD improves by RISING. Any edge here should be re-graded and re-homed if the segment is later identified.
