Plasma glucagon

Method

Plasma glucagon concentration by immunoassay, sampled before and serially after an intragastric amino-acid preload and a fixed mixed-nutrient drink.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

SIGN INVERSION HAZARD against the meal-stimulated insulin response measured on the SAME samples in the SAME trials. Both are pancreatic islet hormones, but glucagon RAISES blood glucose and improves by falling, while stimulated insulin lowers it and improves by rising. A paper reporting an islet hormone response without naming the hormone must not be mapped to either node. Also distinct from glucagon-like peptide-1, an unrelated enteroendocrine incretin that shares a name stem and is frequently co-tabulated.
