Endpoint
Plasma glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)
CAT:outcome/plasma-gipreported in pmol/L
Method
Plasma glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide by immunoassay from serial postprandial sampling after a fixed mixed-nutrient drink.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
Will be confused with glucagon-like peptide-1, co-sampled and co-reported as the incretins. DIRECTION OF BENEFIT IS GENUINELY UNCERTAIN for this analyte: increase records the incretin framing of the source papers, but this peptide also promotes adipose lipid storage and receptor antagonism is an active obesity strategy, so a rise is not unambiguously good. Any edge must state the hypothesis it is testing rather than inherit this default direction.
