Pancreatic cancer incidence

Method

Incident pancreatic cancer diagnoses ascertained by cancer registry linkage, pathology report, or medical record review, compared across exposure categories — conventionally highest against lowest intake — and pooled as a risk ratio, odds ratio, or hazard ratio.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

Confused with bladder cancer incidence, and this is the reason both exist as separate nodes: in the nitrate and nitrite literature these two move in OPPOSITE directions under the same exposure — pancreatic risk falls while bladder risk rises. Pooling them under a generic 'cancer risk' endpoint cancels two real, opposite effects and reports a null. Also distinct from pancreatic cancer mortality, which for a disease with this case fatality tracks incidence closely but is still a different count, and from the other site-specific incidence nodes.
