Endpoint
Nocturnal voiding frequency (nocturia)
CAT:outcome/nocturnal-voiding-frequencyreported in voids per night
Method
Number of nocturnal voids per night, counted from a voiding diary or patient report over a stated number of nights.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
The AUA nocturia item is a single 0-5 ordinal severity rating drawn from the symptom questionnaire, and it is not this: a mean difference of -0.78 voids per night and a mean difference of -0.78 ordinal points are numerically identical and clinically unrelated, which is exactly the failure a shared node produces. This count is also item 7 of the IPSS total, so an edge here plus an edge to the IPSS total from one trial partly double-counts one questionnaire. Distinct again from maximum urinary flow rate and post-void residual volume, which are urodynamic measures rather than a symptom count.
