Late age-related macular degeneration incidence / progression

Method

Progression to late age-related macular degeneration ascertained by annual stereoscopic fundus photograph grading at a reading centre together with documented treatment history, or incident late AMD by documented clinical diagnosis, pooled as a relative risk.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

Will be confused with early AMD incidence, a far commoner endpoint with a much weaker prognostic meaning, and with its own two constituent forms -- geographic atrophy and the exudative form -- which PMID 31358387 reports separately and which behave differently by ARMS2 genotype. A composite result at this level cannot be attributed to either component, and a component result cannot stand in for the composite.
