Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS)

Method

Patient-reported knee status on the KOOS instrument, scored 0 to 100 where 100 is no knee problem. The instrument defines five subscales and papers report either the total or individual subscales; which is recorded on the edge, since a subscale is not the total.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

9 papers, 6 randomised trials. RISING is improvement, which inverts against most pain instruments — a visual analogue pain scale falls to improve while this rises. Distinct from the WOMAC subscales already in this vocabulary: KOOS was derived from WOMAC and contains it, so a paper reporting both states one dataset twice and the graph must not count it as two.
