IPSS quality-of-life item score

Method

Question 8 of the International Prostate Symptom Score — how the patient would feel about living with his current urinary condition permanently — scored on an ordinal 0 to 6 scale anchored at delighted and terrible.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

CRITICAL SIGN INVERSION against every generic health-related quality-of-life instrument in this vocabulary (SF-36, EQ-5D VAS, QLQ-C30), all of which improve by RISING. This item carries the phrase 'quality of life' in its own name but is a bother score anchored so that 0 is delighted and 6 is terrible, so better quality of life is a LOWER number. A name-based match will invert it. Also distinct from the IPSS symptom score itself, the 7-item 0-35 sum this question is appended to, which is scored and analysed separately even though the two are printed on one form.
