ModerateEvidence strength: moderate. Human evidence with one recorded weakness, or capped at moderate by its design or by unread numbers.Finding“The random‐effects meta‐analysis demonstrated that the FEV1 was improved by montelukast adjuvant therapy with a statistical difference (SMD = 1.15, 95% CI [0.53, 1.77], P < 0.01).”

- Population
- Adults aged 18 years or older with cough variant asthma; seven RCTs pooled, montelukast added to inhaled corticosteroid plus long-acting beta agonist versus the same inhaled corticosteroid plus long-acting beta agonist alone (background therapy in both arms); high heterogeneity
Effect 1.15 standardised mean difference, 95% CI 0.53 to 1.77

How it is measured
Volume of air forcefully exhaled during the first second of a forced vital capacity manoeuvre, by spirometry. Baseline airway status (e.g. asthma diagnosis) and time of measurement relative to dosing are recorded with each finding. Some sources misprint it as forced expiratory volume in one minute; that wording names this one-second measurement.
