Facial wrinkle severity

Method

Severity or depth of periorbital or facial wrinkling, by image analysis of a silicone replica or standardised photograph, or by a validated ordinal grading scale scored by a trained assessor. Method and anatomical site recorded on the edge. Where a scale is used, higher scores mean more severe wrinkling; where depth or area is measured, the raw quantity is recorded.

The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.

Notes

19 papers, 8 randomised trials. SIGN CARE: improvement is a FALL in severity, depth or area, which is the opposite direction from most cosmetic endpoints reported alongside it. An edge recording "reduced wrinkle depth" is a benefit and must not be read as a decline in a desirable quantity.
