Endpoint
Diarrhoea duration
CAT:outcome/diarrhoea-durationreported in days
Method
Elapsed time from onset of a diarrhoeal episode to its resolution by the study's stated stool-consistency or frequency criterion, from a participant diary or clinician record. The reporting unit is recorded on the edge — this batch reports both days and hours.
The method is part of the endpoint identity. Studies measuring the same quantity by a different method are held as separate endpoints.
Notes
Diarrhoea incidence or risk is a proportion of participants, not a duration, and the two answer different questions: an intervention can shorten every episode without preventing a single one. SIGN INVERSION against CAT:outcome/time-to-exhaustion and any other duration endpoint that improves by RISING — this duration improves by FALLING, so a generic 'duration' node flips one of them. Also distinct from stool frequency, a count per unit time that can fall while episode duration is unchanged, and from hospital length of stay in trials where both are reported.
