Caffeine Half-Life
The time for the body to metabolize half the caffeine in your bloodstream. Typically 5-6 hours in adults.
Definition
Genetics (CYP1A2 enzyme variants), smoking, pregnancy, and oral contraceptives all shift the half-life. Smokers metabolize faster (3-4 hrs); pregnant women and OC users slower (8-12 hrs). To avoid sleep disruption, last caffeine dose should be 8-10 hours before bedtime.
Formula
C(t) = C_initial × (0.5)^(t / half_life)
