Dunning-Kruger Effect
A cognitive bias where people with low ability in a domain overestimate their competence.
Definition
The same incompetence that prevents performance prevents accurate self-assessment of performance. Higher-skill people often underestimate themselves because they can see how much they don't know. The cure is exposure to genuine expertise — once you see what excellent looks like, you calibrate downward.
