Cognitive Load
The amount of information held in working memory at one time. Capacity is roughly 4±1 items for most adults.
Definition
High cognitive load reduces decision quality, increases errors, and amplifies fatigue. Reduce load by writing things down, single-tasking, closing browser tabs, and batching email. Working memory is finite and cannot be expanded — only managed.
